Hello and welcome!

Hello and welcome to Nordic Breeze, Iberian Seas! In this blog I will be sharing my journey as I pursue a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Systems in Europe through EIT InnoEnergy. In my first year I will be studying at KTH in Stockholm, Sweden and in my second year I will be studying at IST in Lisbon, Portugal. I am hoping to use this blog to share stories, photos, and reflections from my experiences with family and friends (or anyone else who wants to follow along!). You can also follow me on Instagram at @SustainableEmilySystems.

A quick introduction: Hello! My name is Emily. I am 26 years old and I grew up in southeastern Massachusetts. I graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. I spent the last four years living in Washington, D.C. and working as a business analyst on various energy related projects. I identified and developed my interest in sustainable energy, met lots of likeminded people, and started to focus my career in this area. In my free time I love reading, learning languages, cooking, eating, and playing outside (walking, biking, hiking, skiing, etc.).

How did I end up in this program? In 2019 I studied abroad for a semester in Madrid and it was during that semester that I discovered the EIT InnoEnergy program. I took a course in Wind Energy at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and absolutely loved it. I started looking for opportunities to stay in Europe and pursue my interest in renewable energy and I ended up discovering the EIT InnoEnergy program. Fast forward a few years and I found myself starting to seriously consider going back to school. I rediscovered the program and decided to apply somewhat on a whim. I got in. And here we are!
